Advisor Resources

Cane Navigators/Academic Advisors play an important role in helping students plan academically for study abroad by identifying the appropriate semester and types of courses needed to stay on track for graduation.

Cane Navigator Academic Planning Meeting

Students are required to meet with you as part of the Study Abroad application process. During this meeting, they should discuss the timing of study abroad, including the appropriate semester to study abroad, and the types of courses they will need to take abroad to stay on track with degree requirements, including courses for their major, minor, cognates, and/or electives.

Please help students identify the types of courses they will need, as this assists them when searching for classes at their desired institution abroad.

Cane Navigator Recommendation Form

As part of the application process, study abroad applicants are required to have their Cane Navigator/Academic Advisor submit a recommendation form. The applicant will enter your email address in the application, and you will receive a short questionnaire to complete.

Please note:
The “Applicant Information” section is automatically populated from CaneLink. These fields are grayed out and cannot be edited within the application. Information from CaneLink may take 24–48 hours to appear after the student initiates the application.

If information is still missing after 48 hours, please contact studyabroad@miami.edu.
